PREP PROGRAM

Empowering Players of All Ages On and Off the Field

49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank empowers Bay Area youth to lead healthy lifestyles by engaging in physical activity and nurturing the growth of student athletes. Our free programs give young athletes the tools they need to be successful on the field and lead healthy, well-rounded lifestyles beyond the field.

Girls Flag Football Becomes a Sanctioned Varsity Sport in California

History was made in February 2023 when girls flag football became a sanctioned high school varsity sport in the state of California, the eighth state to pass such a vote. Leading up to the big decision, the 49ers and the 49ers Foundation pledged their support of the passing of the vote to the California Interscholastic Federation's (CIF) decision. The 49ers Foundation is proud to offer multiple opportunities for athletes to learn more about the sport and looks forward to continuing to amplify the stories and work of leagues across the state.

DEEPENING YOUR IMPACT

BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH FOOTBALL

Whether it's our free, co-ed flag football leagues across Northern California, our PREP Schools activations in partnership with Bay Area schools, grants for high school football programs, or our advocation of the sanctioning of girls flag football as a varsity sport, we are committed to inspiring and empowering the next generation of game changers. Here’s how we expanded our impact and encouraged young athletes to tackle possible.

PREP SCHOOLS

49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank introduced a new three-part PREP Schools programming offering a deeper impact and understanding of health and wellness by partnering with schools across the Bay Area. Students have the opportunity to participate in a Junior Training Camp emphasizing football fundamentals, a Fun Run to encourage movement in an engaging environment, and a virtual lesson series centering around fitness techniques and overall well-being.

49ERS PREP PRESENTED BY U.S. BANK FLAG FOOTBALL

49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank flag football leagues covered 23 cities across Northern California, impacting over 4,700 youth. This co-ed program, supported by the Westly Foundation, is completely free and provides critical lessons for youth development on and off the field, including teamwork, leadership, confidence, nutrition/health and respect, as well as certification processes for coaches and league commissioners who became program leaders in their communities.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL JAMBOREE

FUELED BY GATORADE

49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank teamed up with Nike to host the first annual Girls Flag Football Jamboree fueled by Gatorade. Rising 6th - 12th graders learned techniques and fundamentals about the game of flag football from local Bay Area coaches and the first female NFL coach, Dr. Jen Welter.

MENTORSHIP ACADEMY

Presented by Newfront Insurance, the Prime Meridian Group, and the William V. Campbell Family Foundation

The Mentorship Academy presented by Newfront Insurance, the Prime Meridian Group, and the William V. Campbell Family Foundation is a three-step program designed to provide high school football players with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed and be leaders on and off the field. The athletes in attendance were surprised by a visit from the entire 2022 San Francisco 49ers rookie class. The rookies led discussions about the importance of having – and being – positive role models. At the conclusion of the event, participants were challenged  to take what they learned and become mentors in their own community.

T.H.I.N.K. GOLD!

Presented by Fuel Up to Play 60

49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank teamed up with the Bay Area Women’s Sports Initiative (BAWSI) to host the Annual T.H.I.N.K. Gold! Conference presented by Fuel Up to Play 60. Together the organizations gave 45 female high school athletes from across the Bay Area the opportunity to meet and learn from the women of the 49ers front office and staff through a variety of social and physical exercises at Levi's® Stadium. The day revolved around 49ers PREP’s and BAWSI’s collaborative mission of encouraging young women to maximize their full potential in athletics, academics and in the community, while teaching them to live a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle.

HIGH SCHOOL TAKEOVERS

Presented by U.S. Bank

49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank led the charge on two High School Takeovers featuring a faceoff between Wilcox High School and Menlo Atherton High School and a showdown between Half Moon Bay High School and Terra Nova High School. 49ers Alumni Dana McLemore and Dennis Brown served as honorary captains and 49ers mascot Sourdough Sam helped get the crowd excited at both Friday night lights showdowns.

SKILLS CAMP

FUELED BY GATORADE

Over 140 high school student-athletes from across the Bay Area came to Levi’s® Stadium to partake in the fourth annual 49ers PREP Skills Camp fueled by Gatorade, a full-day camp that offered multiple experiences for both entry- and elite-level rising 8th through 12th graders looking to fine-tune their game. On the field, participants collected personal data on combine testing, competed against other Bay Area talent, and improved athletic skills through position-specific drills that were taught by 49ers alumni. Fred Warner and Demetrius Flannigan–Fowles also spent time with the campers, giving them insights and coaching tips.

ANTHEM TEAM

Prior to each 49ers home game, 49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank invited program participants to stand on the sidelines next to the San Francisco 49ers during the National Anthem. This experience allows participants to get a professional player’s perspective of all of the excitement of a gameday. For many participants, this experience also created an unforgettable first ever trip to Levi’s® Stadium.

NIKE 11-On

49ers PREP Presented by U.S. Bank teamed up with Nike to host the second annual Nike 11-On. The one day event featured a 7-on-7 tournament with eight local Bay Area high schools – Bellarmine, Castro Valley, Deer Valley, Irvington, Liberty, San Jose, Santa Clara, and Silver Creek – and allowed participants to work on team chemistry ahead of their high school football season.

FRESH LIFELINES FOR YOUTH

Since Fresh Lifelines for Youth’s (FLY’s) founding in 2000, the 49ers Foundation has supported the organization’s work to interrupt the pipeline to prison and support youth on their path to healthy, free and productive lives. FLY connects young people with positive mentors and role models, promotes their understanding of the law and their rights and supports them to become leaders among their peers and in their communities. FLY also helps our juvenile justice systems become more just, humane and equitable.

In 2022, 49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank teamed up with FLY to surprise youth in juvenile hall with a visit from current 49ers players. The players sat with students and discussed healthy methods of dealing with emotions and helped lead football skills and drills stations for youth to rotate through.
